Overview

Festival of Hope has partnered with Celo, a mobile-first, carbon-negative blockchain whose mission is to build a financial system that creates the conditions for prosperity—for everyone.

We are calling all youth to respond to some of the greatest challenges of our time by joining this global effort. Our goal is to create a space for youth to build a community for change, collaborate, and have fun while developing impactful solutions that can lead to a more equitable, greener, and sustainable future.

You don’t need to have technical experience! Just bring big ideas and the desire to work as a team! You can form teams after joining the event.

Participants will need to deliver a 5-10 slide presentation or slide deck that addresses the theme of their choice. Projects can include apps, technologies, business use cases, and solutions to the themes herein.

Join the challenge for a chance to learn about new ways to create a greener future through technology, bring your big ideas for change forward, and win prizes along the way.

What is the Festival of Hope?

The Festival of Hope is an initiative created by the International Baccalaureate that aims to create spaces for millions of young people to speak up and turn complex challenges into positivity and hope.

Over six months, the Festival of Hope will bring together students, educators, scientists, spiritual leaders, researchers, artists, and government leaders from across the globe to explore what it will take to inspire and transform humanity and address the complex challenges faced by young people today.

Why Celo?

The Celo ecosystem supports Defi growth and uses cases that help create a new economic paradigm—one centered around leveraging Web3 tools to solve global systemic problems (e.g., the climate crisis or deep poverty), while empowering local communities, preserving natural resources, and recognizing individuals as unique.

Celo’s mission-driven partners help shape and grow a global regenerative economy through nature-backed stable assets, community-focused finance, and poverty-alleviation protocols.

What is ReFi?

The ReFi movement is galvanizing Web3 builders to design a regenerative economy that promotes a healthy planet, addresses systemic inequality, encourages shared value, and empowers communities to thrive. ReFi is centered around building decentralized financial applications and services that support regeneration rather than exploitation.

How can I get involved in the Hackathon?

The Festival of Hope is an open invitation to bring issues that matter most in youth's lives and communities to the foreground. Therefore, students interested can sign up here! No technical knowledge is necessary!

Why now?

As a global leader in international education, the International Baccalaureate has always put students at the heart of all decisions. The pandemic has exacerbated the difficulties young people already were experiencing. In combination with other major global events such as climate change, violent conflicts, other global health crises, and social upheaval, that all add up to a sense of uncertainty for young people around the world, the IB felt that now more than ever is the right time to create safe spaces for vital dialogues and creative exchanges to help us rise to a new level of thinking and action. Youth is our most significant source of hope for the future, and the active engagement of youth is vital to averting the challenges the world faces and creating inclusive communities.  This is why youth are at the heart of the Festival of Hope.
